Profitable Business Ideas HomeThis is a featured page

Do you want to start a business even during this recession? Some businesses actually do well during recessions. These businesses are called "countercyclical."

The key to figuring out how to find “countercyclical” business is to ask these questions:

1) What is it that you can do?

2) What is it that you can sell?

The key to finding recession-proof business ideas is to become keenly aware of those products and services that people have to spend money on regardless of the current economic downturn.

3) Is there a pressing frustration or problem that you can solve?

4) Identify what are those. It is better to identify a cluster of people whose recurring frustration you can solve and who will pay for your products or services because it made their lives better and/or made them feel better.

The cluster of people can be busy parents, high school students, mothers, retiring baby boomers, the aged, newlyweds, graduates, single parent…

Every business requires that you provide authentic value to someone out there is who willing to pay to make their lives less frustrating.

Basically, there are 3 types of businesses you can explore based on your passion: Here are some examples:

A. Service-based Business

*People love their pets. That’s why it’s the seventh largest retail industry even during tough times.

*Repair services is a recession-proof industry because it is often less costly to repair something than buy a new one.

B. Product-based Business

Sell what is essential.

The most obvious necessity is food but if you don’t have a passion for that sell other basic needs. Health is a basic need especially during hard times when stress is higher. Sell things that people think they must have or stuff that would keep their minds off bad times like entertainment. People do not wish to forgo all pleasure during economic downturns. Instead of cutting back, people can substitute them for cheaper versions. When times are hard, people will search for value for their money, so make innovations and evaluate it from your customer's perspective.

C. Knowledge- based Business

During recession people would like to explore other options to earn a living. If you can teach them a new skill then you have a value to people. Find targeted niches of people who are searching for the very information you have and package it in such a way that it will give them the benefit they want and are satisfied.
